We hope you all are having a restful summer and enjoyed a safe Fourth of July. AUMCC has lots of exciting events occurring over the next month!
On July 7th from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, HillVets will be once again hosting a networking social event at the following address:
Valor Brewpub
723 8th Street Southeast
Washington, DC 20003
Not only that, but later this month the Veterans Services Office is going to host an Information Session and Meet and Greet on July 20th via Zoom from 6:30-8:00 pm (EST). The first half of the session (6:30-7:15) will go over how to use VA Education Benefits at AU. The second half of the session (7:15-8:00) will be an opportunity to meet other military-connected students. Students and families are welcome to join one or both portions of the session.
We highly, highly encourage current student veterans to attend the session as it will be a wonderful opportunity to help new student veterans with their transition to being a college student.

Lastly, we wanted to take some time to reflect on Memorial Day and to both celebrate and mourn the generations of sacrifices that our service members have given to all of us throughout our nation’s history. These sacrifices from our brothers and sisters-in-arms should never be forgotten. We hope that this Memorial Day gave each of you some time to reflect and we are always here if anyone in our military-connected community ever needs support of any kind.
Congratulations to you all on getting through this last semester! We are all UNBELIEVABLY PROUD of our graduating student veteran and military-affiliated population for their incredible accomplishment.
Tomorrow at the Washington College of Law’s Faculty Lounge from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM, graduating student veterans who are serving, have served, or will serve after graduation will receive a red, white, and blue cord as part of the Military-Connected Graduation Celebration.
To our AU military-affiliated community: Not only have you served (or will serve) your country, but you’ve taken the disciplined initiative to obtain your education despite the challenges of being a college student in a post-COVID world. Please take this time to celebrate your amazing achievement, and we hope to celebrate with you tomorrow!
Lastly, due to limited space, graduates and their immediate family members only will be permitted to attend as we have quite a lot of graduates! As always, we’re always here in the event that any of you have any questions or concerns.
We have an amazing opportunity for those of you who love golf! The Links to Freedom (L2F) Golf Foundation has recently been granted the opportunity for tickets that have been provided by the Wells Fargo Championship event being held in our region for just this year!
This event will be played in Maryland near Washington, D.C. at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm and will take place from May 4th through May 8th next month. The address for this event is 10000 Oaklyn Drive, Potomac, Maryland 20854.
For further background information, the L2F “provides wounded, ill, and injured service members and their families, surviving spouses and their children the opportunity to rehabilitate and restore emotional, physical and social well-being through the game of golf,” (L2F Website).
Therefore, all proceeds from these links/ticket sales support an injured, ill or Wounded Warrior enrolling in the L2F curriculum golf instructional program which is taught by PGA and LPGA professionals at no cost to the Wounded Warrior. AUMCC is incredibly grateful to the heroic efforts of L2F and their dedication to aiding veterans and their families, and we hope to see a lot of you show support for them.
We hope to see some of you take advantage of this wonderful and generous opportunity from our lovely friends over at L2F! Additionally, please feel free to forward this information within your networks as well!
